I am always glad to see the lovely blooms of
my annual Amaryllis.
This year it is the lovely Apple Blossom.
It has delicate pink venation and shimmering white in its petals.
Such simple markings. Uncluttered. Subtle.
My holiday begins when my Hippeastrum blooms.

Love amaryllis! How do you get your to rebloom every year? I have a tough time getting mine to bloom again. I get beautiful leaves but not blooms.

I plant them outside in the spring. Sunny spot. Lots of organic matter in the soil.

When mine rebloom, they do it at the wrong time of year, but that’s okay. I love the structure of the flower — those two overlapping sets of 3 petals. And the thrill of seeing an emerging bud, watching it develop to the blooming point, that adds to the whole experience.

It’s a beautiful bloom. It makes me think of an hawaiian headdress. I’ve only just started my bulbs!
