Where Do My Words Go?

I send my words out into the world.

I get back  numbers and flags,

20160224_113147.jpg

and occasionally comments.

Sometimes I have to Ctrl C and Ctrl V these into a translator.

I love these beautiful languages with their own sounds and rhythms.

Do they read my words, or just look at my photos?

Do they really understand what I am trying to say?

Do they feel what I feel?

All I can do is let my words fly away and hope they land where they are needed.

A smile or a laugh from me,

in a land I will never see,

IMG_8089

to friends I will never meet.

I hope I help you or brighten your day.

Your flags and numbers let me know you are out there,

but your words bring me joy.

Talk to the Flower.

Haunted by the Chimes

I think of him when the wind blows.

I have his chimes.

IMG_7868

I listen to their notes and wonder.

Is he sending me a message.

Is he spelling it out in the musical notes A, C, E, F, B?

IMG_7865

What is he telling me? Is he calling my name?

Or do the notes just bring me back into this moment,

away from my plans for tomorrow, back from my worry of yesterday?

You can’t see the wind. You can only feel it and hear it.

Is it an unseen proof of faith?

I hear it singing. I watch its moving shadows.

He was here.

Now he’s not.

Or is he?

It’s a Rotten World

Thank goodness!

Where would we be without our fungi friends?

They turn all those stumps and sticks into soil.

IMG_7841

The lichens are greenish colors,

IMG_7844

but the fungi may be any color from black to orange.

IMG_7806

Some are slimy,

IMG_7845

while others are brittle.

IMG_7815

Some are ugly,

IMG_7851

but others are really beautiful.

IMG_7849

Some grow solo,

IMG_7847

while others form a “Charlie Foxtrot” (Cluster Fungi)

IMG_7852

There are even groups who go out on a limb to have a Fungi Fiesta.

Fungi are Fun!

A Star that is Blue

This fern has many features that I love.

Its trade name is Blue Star Fern. One of its scientific names is Phlebodium aureum.

IMG_7438

Loved feature #1.   It is blue.   Blue is my daddy’s favorite color, because he loves bluebirds.

My last post featured a plant that was also”peacock” blue, you may recall.

IMG_7375IMG_7449IMG_7448

Loved feature # 2.  This fern also has interesting leaf/frond shapes. Not just one shape, but many.

I wonder how the plant decides which frond gets to be a glove and which is a mitten.

IMG_7416

Loved feature # 3 is this marvelous venation pattern. Lower plants have to use structural support that relies more on tinsel strength than bulk.

IMG_7422

And last but not least, Loved feature # 4 is its cute little hairy feet.

Not as cute as a rabbit’s foot of course, but still cute. This root actually looks like Barley.

Follow the Fern… I mean Flower.

Wild Hare

There has been a new development with the bunnies.

As I exited my workshop this morning, I heard chewing noises coming from under my work table outside the door.

I bent down to to see which bunny was under there. To my surprise, I saw neither. I paused and heard the sounds again.

This time I looked into the shelves. Guess who…

IMG_7269

Miss Busy Bee was up in the shelves snooping through my gardening supplies.

If this is rabbit adolescence, I’m going to need some back-up.

Just this morning I had to provide separate “toilets” because one of them insisted on doing their business BESIDE the litter box.  Now,  there are separate but equal facilities.

What next?

Don’t follow this Flower.

Bunnies in the Doghouse

Things are finally returning to normal in the bunny room. I sent them both outside while I cleaned out the “nest” today.

IMG_7263

I watched them as they came in to see Charlotte’s reaction. She seemed to have forgotten the frenzy.  After checking the room to inspect my cleaning, she lay down in her usual spot in front of the door.

IMG_7265

Barley got reacquainted with the litter box.

IMG_7264

But… All is not well.

While moving the treadmill to its new location, a discovery was made.

Bunnies must chew, you see. I apparently did not provide enough fruit-wood sticks at some point.  Teething continues, sticks or no sticks.

I had removed the plug-in cord from the treadmill, but had failed to notice a loop projecting ever so slightly out the bottom. This loop was not missed by the keen eyes of the bunnies.

I went out yesterday and got myself new gloves and a quick-dry scarf.  I guess I’ll be doing my walking outside until the cord is ordered and replaced.

Walk with the cold Flower.

A Great Start to a New Year

January 2, 2016

As I look back and review 2015, at the top of my grateful list, surprisingly, sits a man named Paul. I remember the day Paul first appeared in my life. He conspicuously sat in the front pew (the one that is normally empty) of my small country church. Throughout the service, his booming ‘Amen’ and ‘Alleluia’ seemed disruptive. I admit to hoping the front pew would soon go back to empty. Thankfully, it never did.

Paul is special. He wears his faith like most people wear a shirt. It’s so much a part of him, it’s one of the first things you notice. He’s not much of a talker, but in the few words he does say, he always seems to find a way to praise God.

To the question– “Hi Paul. How are you?”

I’ve come to love his response– “Wonderful.”

This one word, ‘wonderful’, sticks…

Bunny Up-date

Charlotte’s nesting activity has slowed down.

She has, however, banished Barley from the hutch.  He now resides in the Christmas box under the foosball table.

IMG_7193

She did allow him a brief, supervised inspection  of the nest this morning.

IMG_7205IMG_7208

When he approached her earlier today, she made a warning sound to let him know to back-off.

At least they still eat together.

IMG_7188

She is still pulling hair.

IMG_7196

She leaves clumps around on the floor and then gathers them up.

With all the hair in the nest and trash, I don’t see how she doesn’t have bald spots.

IMG_7194

She and Barley are out in the yard now. I hope a change of scenery will be good for her.
