I could not dig up my dahlias last fall. I was too busy falling down and going to the Emergency Room.
Here they are.

They survived without my digging them, drying them, cleaning them and then storing them in shoeboxes with vermiculite.
What else have I been doing the hard way?
Sigh.
Do not answer that.
FLAW. I mean FLOW.

A happy accident… hmmm, what else, glads, amaryllis?

Not those. Keep watching. Thanks Eliza

They’re SO beautiful. We had a fairly mild winter without much in the way of snow, so I probably could have gotten away with not digging up my gladiolas.

My dahlias survived several days of 12F in January 2024. That’s an extreme for here; usual lowest winter temp is about 20F. Drainage is excellent here; don’t know if that was a factor.
I think you have to dig them up in places where the ground freezes

I meant to dig only my favorites, but did not even get that done.

Derrick you are so wise. I must examine my methods more closely to get to the root of the problem.

That Firepot one is so beautiful! Where I live (west coast of Canada) dahlias are pretty resilient because the winters are usually temperate. But last winter was cold! So I only have a few, in pots, and I was too busy to buy and plant more. Yours are really wonderful.
