How many hoops must I jump through to keep this shrub happy? Sometimes it looks like it is thriving and other times I must grab some clippers and cut off browning, misshappen leaves.

It is in a shaded corner, out of wind with moist soil. I cut about eight leaves off before taking this photo of the blooms. I know that is cheating/staging. Chill sticklers.

I fell in love with its variegated leaves. You can see why its name is ‘Spider’s Web’ Fatsia japonica.

Stay tuned for its black berries.

If any of you have a clue about what is wrong by looking at the removed leaves, please message me.

It may be a humidity issue, or possibly calcium deficiency… you may need to add lime. This cultivar always makes me think it is infested with spider mites, lol!

Wow. Thanks for this. I will inspect it tomorrow and find some lime.

Since it’s blooming, it must be relatively healthy. Might it be one of those plants that always has a few aging leaves that don’t look good? I have an Anthericum (house plant) that always has a few yellowing leaves with black blotches, but it blooms quite well.

I will try to keep better records. It seems like it only gets my attention when it has problems.
