Oakleaf Hydrangea Ignored by Deer

I have many hydrangeas that must be wrapped in deer fence, but not this giant. The deer herd walks right by it.

Oakleaf Hydrangea

Its blooms are a creamy white with a hint of pink.

Blooms about ten inches long.

The aroma is floral mixed with hints of citrus and vanilla.

Gorgeous every May.  Zero maintenance.

Win, win and win again!

Changing Hydrangeas

June is also the month the Hydrangeas bloom in North Carolina.

I have three types which have different bloom configurations.

Big-leaf/panicle Hydrangeas have pom-pom blooms.

My ‘Glory Blue’ has never been true blue no matter what I do.

My lacecap with variegated leaves is true blue,

unless it is purple…

or even pink!

Do not bother lecturing me on soil pH or hybridization.

The rules get broken here. I am puzzled by my hydrangeas.

Except for the Oakleaf Hydrangea, which I can always count on to be white…

until it turns pink.

Hi Ho Hydrangeas!

The low angle of the sun’s rays causes the subject  to cast vertical shadows on itself.

I got up early this morning and let the sun’s rays spotlight what I should photograph.

I paced up and down the eastern side of the garden waiting to see what lit up next.
