Surprised by a Lily

I have been gone again. I cannot bend to pull weeds, so they are large and numerous.

I almost missed a new lily blooming. This is its first appearance.

Lycoris squamigera

It is a Surprise Lily, Lycoris squamigera.

Glad it is tall enough to be spotted over the weeds!

FLOW is home.

    1. I used to use the neem oil to no avail. I’m a naughty girl and went nuclear on them with Seven. But they’ve evolved now to where that doesn’t even bother them anymore. I see I do all the “don’ts”: I don’t keep the beds clean (I throw everything I find in there, leaves, grass clippings, twigs etc) and I leave the dead flowers and plants. But it all used to work excellently for me. I planted some of these lilies twenty years ago and they only grew and grew. Some of them had over a dozen flowers on one plant. It was about five years ago that these vile creatures appeared, and I’m sick of battling them. These are Asiatics btw if it makes a difference (which it probably does).
