Sometimes I look through my camera and get surprised.
I got a surprise while photographing one of the Spiderworts.
It had tiny flying insects hanging onto its stamen.
Not hoovering like a normal bee, but tucked into the flower.
This Spiderwort is Tradescantia ‘Zwanenburg Blue.’
Its flowers close during the heat of the day and in wind.
It likes moist conditions, but I have had some rot if kept too wet.
It is deer resistant. A feature that is much needed now that my garden is a deer delicatessen.
Flow
Your spiderwort is lovely – I’ve tried to grow it here but it’s too dry.

I also have some surprises when I enlarge photos on the computer.

I’ve also had that happen; I’m so focused on the subject (flower/foliage) that I don’t see the attached critter. I think rather than bees, those might be syrphid or hover flies–excellent pollinators. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoverfly

Thanks. Your eyes are better than mine.

I changed the title. Ha. I hope my husband’s eyesight is not as bad as mine. He is allergic to some kind of tiny bee. His lips and stomach swell. We call him a pregnant monkey when it happens. Not really funny since last time we went to the ER. He now has an epi pen.

I’m often surprised by the fauna revealed by the camera lens.

I like that, deer delicatessen. Delicatessen is word from my past. Never hear it any more. Of course the concept of a Deli is not a southern thing. NYC, I grew up with them on every corner. 😀
