I found this book on a bench in an art museum: The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St.Clair.
I have always felt that my color vocabulary was lacking. This little treasure should help.
The side of the book looks like a rainbow. Each color section has various hues listed.
Who knew there were so many purples. Each one has several pages of history and descriptions in how the hue was made.
I will be ready to better describe my next red flower, now that Kassia has provided the accurate term for it.
I will post on rocks in the art museum next.

It has interesting stories about the different hues and dyes. I have been reading about fashion trends in history and famous people who made certain colors popular.

When I was a child I wanted to grow up to have the job of naming crayon colors. Now, I am on to paints. I did once buy a gallon of paint just for the name – “Lettuce Alone”. It turned out to be the perfect shade of green for my garden shed.

I would have bought Lettuce Alone, too Beth. What an ambitious child you were. I did do art by melting my crayons and dropping color blobs onto surfaces to decorate them.

It is very interesting. Puce has a strange history involving Marie Antoinette. Who knew?

Interesting. There is a place in northern PA that was built for Marie Antoinette to escape to during the French Revolution. She didn’t make it here, needless to say.
