Three Raccoons in the Fig Tree

We have some new visitors in the yard. We have been enjoying watching them picking figs from our big fig tree. We can see the show from our deck.

Fig, magnolia, dogwood

The baby raccoon did not stop picking and eating while I stood below taking photos.

Baby’s tail

The two larger raccoons climbed as high as they could when they saw us coming. One climbed over into the dogwood.

Big one and high up

The other was in the top of the fig peeking around at me.

I look forward to watching these three acrobats eating figs every evening until they are all gone.

FLOW

The Butterflies and the Figs

I am a scientist, but I believe in signs. Mine come from nature.

Today was tough. I won’t share my troubles. I needed to be alone.

I went down to sit in my sad chair. It’s where I sit to sort out my crises.

I was pondering my problems when I was distracted by fluttering in the fig.

This is the “Miss Robbie” fig tree. It has a history.

That history did not include butterflies until today.

Now we can say these flutterbys were passing through and stopped for a snack.

This may be true, but this is the first time of my seeing them on a thirty-year-old fig tree.

Mama was on my mind and Miss Robbie was sending me a sign.

She is on the other side with my daddy you see.

They probably saw me crying in the sad chair and felt compelled to send those butterflies.

They may have been angels stopping by to put my troubled mind at ease.

Nature has a way of healing me when I am hurting.

All I have to do is be still.

The Crow Knows

I do not need to check the fig tree to see when the figs are ripe.

The crow lets everybody know.

He sits on an oak branch high above the fig tree, bobbing up and down,

as he loudly caws all to the feast.

IMG_3036

I do not mind sharing.   He takes the high figs and I take the low figs.

There are other fig lovers.

Giant hornets.

They do mind sharing.

Follow the Figs… Carefully.

Viva La Tree

A tree is so much more than leaves

and roots.

IMG_1185

It is shade

and fruit.

IMG_1180

It is home and perch.

It is look-out

and  hiding place.

I look at wood very differently than most

where they see fuel and walls and fences,

I see the stem of a sacrificed friend.
