I appreciate my gap-filling plants that keep the butterflies around all summer.
One of the butterfly favorites is garlic chives, Alium tuberosa.
These lovely white bloom clusters are full of fliers in August.
I can count on getting photographs of something on them any time of day.
This morning I had the good fortune of finding a Painted Lady.
These have four eyespots with a cobweb pattern on the underside of their hindwings.
The garlic chive plants keep them busy until the sedums bloom.
This plant is so hardy that a clump has survived out of the ground for over a year.
I cut the blooms as they mature because it will seed itself everywhere.
It is deer resistant and beautiful. The butterflies are an added bonus.

The aroma from these plants when grown in large amounts is distinctive Love the painted lady 🙂

I am trying not to have large amounts. The little black seeds travel if you do not cut them before ripening.

Yes we have woodland areas here near streams which they seem to love, and they spread like wild fire… So keeping them in control is a must.. 🙂

Beautiful. My elephant garlic produces the same effect with butterflies.

Our buddleias are attracting a good number of painted ladies this year. Such a good thing to see, especially after a few years when there haven’t been many butterflies around.

I cut my pods off while they are still green. Otherwise they would be a problem. On ounce of prevention…

Mine aren’t blooming yet, but a nearby neighbor’s are. Yours, along with their accompanying pollinators, are gorgeous.
