Living Up to its Name

My butterfly bush was as busy as an airport yesterday.

This is a Black Knight Buddleia with deep purple blooms.

It was covered by dozens of butterflies yesterday evening.

Along with the various types of butterflies were several Hummingbird Clearwing moths.

and a lone MONARCH!

I was so glad to have my camera. This is the first Monarch butterfly I have seen this year.

I love watching all the fliers sharing the flowers.

  1. We had/have an elderly tall white buddleia which this spring I cut back very hard indeed. A couple of harsh late frosts in May and it seemed that the buddleia had died. I was frustrated with myself: who knew it was possible to kill a buddleia? But we left it in situ and slowly, slowly is is hauling itself back into life. It is even going to produce a few small flower bracts. It’s still very puny but hopefully in another summer or two it will be hosting hoards of butterflies again just as yours is, Flower 🙂
